Promotion/Relegation back for 2017 onward

Maryland Major Soccer League reinstituting Promotion/Relegation

Starting with the fall 2017 the Maryland Major Soccer League will once again institute promotion/relegation. For the fall 2017 season, there will be a 10 team first division and a 8-14 team 2nd division. The 10 first division teams based on fall 2016 standings are:

2017 1st Division
Christos F.C.
Izee Autobody FC
Pipeline S.C.
NLS Graduates
Academy FC
Catonsville FC Orange
J.A. Raiders F.C.
Charm City FC
AFC '16
FC Barracudas Tavern

 

All other teams will compete in the 2nd division. For the fall 2018 season, all divisions will be six (6) team divisions. Qualification for the fall 2018 1st division will be as follows:

  • The top 5 finishers in the fall 2017 season
  • The champion of the fall 2017 Maryland Majors DiMarco Cup. Teams that will compete in the fall 2017 DiMarco Cup will be the 6th - 10th place finishers in the 1st division and the top 3 finishers from the 2nd division.

 

Fall 2018 and thereafter, the league will have six team 1st division, six team 2nd division, six team 3rd division, and a six team 4th division. Teams will play a 10 game season (home and home against everyone) and the 6th place finishers will be relegated to the next lower division and 1st place finishers will be promoted up to the next level.
