Maryland Major Clubs in US Open Cup

By virtue of our affiliation with the US Soccer Federation, all Maryland Major Soccer League clubs are eligible to compete in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. The US Open Cup dates back to 1914 and is open to all soccer teams affiliated with US Soccer including professional and amateur. The reigning 2018 champions are the Houston Dynamo from MLS. The 2019 US Open Cup starts with local amateur qualifying and the Maryland Majors had more teams enter local qualifying than any other local State League in the country with six entrants. 1. Christos FC - the three time defending Maryland Major Soccer League champion, Christos are looking to qualify for their 3rd consecutive US Open Cup proper. Christos made a huge name for themselves nationally and went viral when they advanced to the 4th round of the US Open Cup defeating a PDL and professional USL side (Richmond Kickers) before facing off against DC United of MLS in the 4th round. In a match played at the MarylandSoccer Plex, busloads travelled down to support Christos and there was standing room only as 6,000 fans watched Christos take on the four time MLS champion DC United Christos gave DC all they could handle and took a 1-0 lead on a beautiful set piece goal. DC United eventually equalized in the 80th minute after going to its bench and would prevail 4-1. Christos won $15,000 prize from US Soccer for advancing further than any other amateur team. Their run was featured on Sports Center and other local and national media. In this year's qualifying, Christos won its 1st round match over fellow MMSL side Rockville SC, then won 2nd round match over WPL rival Aegean Hawks, before dropping 3rd round match on the road in Virginia to VA United.

2. World Class Premier - emerging powerhouse in the Maryland Majors, World Class Premier pulled off a league double in spring 2018 winning both the Maryland Major Soccer League and the Washington Premier League. As of November 2018, World Class Premier is the last team standing for the Maryland Majors a they have won their first three qualifying games defeating league rival Izee Autobody in the 1st round, Charlottesville Alliance in the 2nd round, and most recently defeated the Rochester Lancers in the 3rd round in a hard fought game on the road in New York.

3. Izee Autobody FC - Izee has battled hard in recent years to be one of the top teams in the Maryland Majors. In 2018 US Open Cup qualifying, they fell to Christos in extra time. Izee won the 2017 spring Maryland Major Soccer League championship and also competed in the summer 2018 USASA Region I Northeast Elite Soccer League (NESL).

4. Super Delegates - emerging Maryland Majors club who won the spring 2018 MMSL 2nd Division and promoted to the 1st Division. Delegates defeated DC Cheddar from Washington DC in the 1st round and dropped a 2nd round match to VA United.

5. Steel Pulse - Emerging Maryland Major Soccer League power in the 2nd Division who hope to promote to the 1st Division, Steel Pulse drew 2009 USASA National Champion and 10x Washington Premier League champion Aegean Hawks. In a hard fought match, the Aegean Hawks prevailed over Steel Pulse 1-0.

6. Rockville SC - first time participants in the US Open Cup, Rockville, who complete in the Maryland Majors 2nd Division, drew Christos in the first round of qualifying and were defeated.
